A few kilometers from the city of Pistoia is the village of Collodi, famous for the story of "The Adventures of Pinocchio". The author of the story, Carlo Lorenizini (alias Carlo Collodi) dedicated the work to his mother, who was born and grew up in Collodi. The success of Pinocchio's adventures has always been a source of pride for the inhabitants and the administration, who decided to create a park in honor of Collodi and Pinocchio.
The park has been designed to welcome both children and adults, allowing them to return to their childhood and be transported by the magic of the place. The entire itinerary is inspired by the original story, with the addition of imposing bronze statues that recall the main characters. The Cat and the Fox, the Fairy, and the Pinocchio are represented in the vegetation as if they had always lived there.
Since 1956 (the year the park opened), important artists have participated in the creation of the sculptures, making the environment more and more suggestive. Among them, the huge statue of the Dogfish - known to everyone as the Disney Whale - should be remembered. The shark, which in the book first ate Geppetto and then Pinocchio, is depicted with its mouth wide open and its teeth sharp.
It is possible to walk between the teeth of the statue until you reach a small wooden staircase that leads to the animal's head, from where you can admire the whole park and its surroundings.
Equally amusing is the Ivy Labyrinth, built to challenge children's intelligence and make them find a way out as quickly as possible.
The park is dedicated to the little ones and does not lack games and entertainment dedicated to them, who can watch the puppet show or climb the imposing rope castle.
In short, adventure is a very important part of Pinocchio Park, which seeks to reawaken the joy of childhood and its lightheartedness.
A few minutes away from the park you can visit two other attractions: the Garzoni Garden and the Butterfly House.
The Garzoni Garden is considered one of the most beautiful in Italy, with the same magical aura that surrounds Pinocchio Park.
An incredibly well-kept place where you can feel like a "prince" and a "princess". The Butterfly House is a medium-sized greenhouse that houses thousands of colorful specimens. The butterflies are left free to grow in a comfortable environment. A visit that allows you to closely observe them with their thousand colors and interesting particular evolution.
