The main attractions of Carovigno

Carovigno is not very famous or besieged by tourists. And this is a real shame, but also an advantage. Here in Carovigno, you can in fact enjoy a spectacular coastline and an absolutely fantastic historic center to be discovered. Carovigno, in the province of Brindisi, is located not far from Ostuni and has such beautiful beaches that are very popular with locals.

The historical center has an ancient charm: full of gates and watchtowers, churches and castles, ancient streets, and much more. A walk in the historical center will surely lead you to discover the Dentice di Frasso Castle, with its three towers and its characteristic triangular shape, one of the most visited places for the courtyard, the loggias, and the suggestive staircases.

The protected area of Torre Guaceto

This natural reserve is a marine area controlled by the Brindisi Harbor Master's Office. It is located on the Adriatic coast of Upper Salento and is characterized by the Torre Guaceto, an Aragonese tower that is the symbol of the Park. The tower has a square plan and is 16 meters long, it is located at the southern end of the Park in a strategic position on the sea. The reserve was created to preserve and protect both terrestrial and marine fauna: it is mainly composed of Mediterranean scrub, where rare birds such as the Kentish plover or the oystercatcher lay their eggs. The vegetation is rich in myrtle, rosemary, prickly asparagus, and many other types of typical shrubs that create a perfect tangle for different ecosystems.

The Grotta del Moro

Also known as the Blue Grotto, this natural cave is located at the Torre di Santa Sabina. This marine area is located on the ancient Via Traiana. From the outside, it looks like a crater, but inside you can discover several tunnels that lead to the sea. These make the environment truly evocative, thanks also to the rays of the sun that expose the colors of the water inside the rock. There are many who are surprised to visit this underwater cave where you can reach the sea by passing through the tunnels. The grotto is a real surprise for the visitors, but guaranteed fun for the little ones who like to dive into the crater to escape directly to the sea.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in Cielo

The mother church of Carovigno, dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta in Cielo, was built in the 16th century. The church is characterized by an apse with niches containing religious works of art and by a large rose window on the main façade: this large rose window is characterized by a very precise and detailed decoration.
