Among the most beautiful places to see around Treviso, there is undoubtedly the village of Cison di Valmarino which, nestled in the valley between Vittorio Veneto and Follina, has been elected one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
During the Middle Ages, this place represented the political and administrative center of the city of Valmarino. Today, immersed in the Treviso countryside, among vineyards and colorful mountains, it is the perfect place to find refuge and feel a bit like in a beautiful fairy tale: a high medieval castle, the so-called one of, Castelbrando, nature green, ancient history, artisans and legends, are the details that make Cison di Valmarino a village absolutely to be discovered.
It won't seem real to you, Cison di Valmarino seems to be a real postcard. Just walking through the alleys of this village is an experience to be lived. Cison di Valmarino is the starting point for excursions and walks in the pre-alpine setting of the Marca Trevigiana: mountain lovers can reach the Loff Refuge or take the historic Strada dei Cento Giorni.
It is an Austrian engineering work built during the First World War and traced on a Roman path that preserves a Byzantine-era lookout tower. In the past, it was used by travelers and merchants heading to the Belluno area, shepherds for transhumance, by pilgrims.
Cison is the ideal destination for walks immersed in nature such as the path called Via Dei Mulini where you can see a reconstruction of the artisan reality of the village with an itinerary that goes up the valley of the Rojo River and where you can admire the ancient washhouses and mills.
Always along the path, you walk through the most luxuriant nature of the Bosco delle Penne Mozze, with the monument to the Alpine fallen of the province of Treviso.
The village of Cison di Valmarino is that of the heart, of stones and lights where the beating heart is in Piazza Roma: here are the main architectural buildings, such as the church of Santa Maria Assunta, Palazzo Barbi, the La Loggia theater, and the Museum of Vintage Radio.
Not to be missed is Castelbrando di Cison di Valmarino which is located on the Col de Moi not far from the historic center. This castle features twelfth-century architecture and stands out in the surrounding landscape because it immediately conquers the heart of those who observe it.
From Castelbrando it is possible to enjoy an overall view of the town below and see a Cedrus libra, a tree with a circumference of over 5 meters.
