There are places that have an ancient flavor while being constantly subjected to modern life and its needs. Places where nature and history integrate perfectly to create the magic of encounter. Places that, although they seem suspended in time and space, seem to be enchanted by a strong magic. One of these places is certainly the town of Conegliano.
Located near the Treviso Prealps, the city of Conegliano is famous as the birthplace of the painter Giambattista Cima, of whom you can still admire in the Cathedral a splendid altarpiece depicting the "Sacred Conversation", making this place a place of cultural and religious inspiration.
A very inhabited city, the second historical center of the province of Treviso, which is located in a particularly strategic position: between Treviso and Venice, and is full of hotels that host the tourist influx linked to food and wine. Let's discover together all the secrets of this enchanted place called Conegliano.
The main square and the beating heart of the town is called Piazza Cima, dedicated to the famous painter whose birthplace is the city. It is overlooked by the Town Hall and the Accademia Theatre. Continuing along via XX Settembre, you reach the Cathedral of Conegliano, with its characteristic façade decorated with frescoes of biblical scenes, which continue inside with scenes from the New Testament.
Going up on foot or by car you reach the former convent of San Francesco. It is a complex of restored buildings open to the public with a cloister and garden surrounded by round arches. Continuing to climb you reach the Rocca di Castelvecchio.
This is composed of parts of the ancient fortress and the remains of the ancient Cathedral (bell tower and apse) incorporated in the oratory of S. Orsola and the tower called the Torre della Campana, which today is the seat of the Civic Museum, an absolutely to visit.
Another place not to be missed is the Jewish Cemetery, located on the hill called "Caliban", one of the most evocative and panoramic places in Conegliano, with over 100 tombs belonging to families from Conegliano and Ceneda.
