Among the Italian cities of art, Treviso is certainly one of the most beautiful. An elegant old town where the fog of the rivers slowly clears up to show the lines of the elegant buildings that follow their course. Yes, because Treviso is also known as the city of two rivers, precisely the Carignan and the Sile that cross it, giving it a characteristic and at the same time romantic aspect.
Here in Treviso, nature, and man live in harmony, in a perfect balance between buildings and respect for the natural conformation of the place. Let's now go to the discovery of the main attractions of this Venetian city, following a virtual itinerary in the streets of Treviso.
A walk through Treviso starts from the beautiful Piazza dei Signori from here you can admire the Palazzo del Podestà, the Palazzo dei Trecento, and the Civic Tower, 48 meters high and dating back to 1400. In this square, you can go shopping and breathe a quiet atmosphere.
Starting from the square, take the Calmaggiore alley surrounded by arcades that leads to the Cathedral of Treviso. Built on an early Christian temple of which only the crypt remains, the Cathedral is named after San Pietro Apostolo. The church has a Romanesque style supported by six Ionic columns that stand out majestically on the grand staircase of the facade.
Yet, the most characteristic part of Treviso remains the Via Calmaggiore which connects the Piazza dei Signori with the Duomo and is considered as a virtual link between religion and politics. Walking along this street means enjoying the beating heart of the city with shops and buildings, such as the famous Palazzo Zignoli where the fountain of the Tits is located, a bust from whose breasts gushes clear water.
Now is the time to give nature some space and get closer to the river that cross the ancient Roman Tarvisium, overcome the wooden bridges and Porta San Tommaso from which you can also admire the ancient Roman walls that surround the city and experience the urban space that integrates perfectly with rivers. Here there is also the Natural Park of the Sile river with 4152 hectares located between the provinces of Treviso, Venice, and Padua. The cycle paths are numerous and fascinating, sorrounded by the suggestive Treviso atmosphere.
Leaving the centre of Treviso, it is possible to visit the famous Villa Tiepolo Passi in Carbonera, one of the most illustrious examples of post-Palladian Villa.
