It is the largest natural protected area in Trentino, with its headquarters in the town of Stumbo. It extends westwards between the Valle di Non, the Giudicarie, and the Val di Sole, covering an area of 620 square kilometers. The Park's environment is typical of the central-southern Alps, with coniferous forests covering the slopes of the mountains up to 1800 meters above sea level.
Forests occupy one-third of the surface of the Adamello Brenta Park, which in the rest of the territory gives way to suggestive valleys, alpine pastures, and rocky vegetation that reaches up to 2500 meters above sea level.
The Adamello Brenta Park includes the Adamello-Presanella chain and the Brenta Dolomites. Here you can admire one of the largest glaciers in Europe, the Adamello Glacier in Val Camonica, which can be visited through an organized trekking excursion.
Thick woods, streams, and beautiful waterfalls allow the visitor to get in touch with nature.
In 2015, the Adamello Brenta Natural Park became part of the 120 geoparks recognized by UNESCO Global Geoparks thanks to the presence of various sites that testify to the evolution of the earth's crust. Various morphologies are recognizable in this park, such as:
The Adamello Brenta Natural Park has a rich indigenous fauna, among which the presence of the brown bear stands out, an animal that is also the symbol of the Park, as you can see on the logo. There are also wolves and lynxes, large carnivores, foxes, badgers, beech martens, ermines, and weasels are very common.
The rocky peaks make it easy to spot chamois and ibex, as well as deer and roe deer. Birds of prey are also a particular attraction of the park: the golden eagle, the buzzard, the goshawk, the sparrowhawk, and the kestrel, and nocturnal animals such as the owl and the eagle owl nest here.
In the park, it is possible to find 48 lakes that reflect on the surface the high peaks of the surrounding mountains. The landscape and naturalistic value of the Dolomites are among the most important in the world. The surface of the Park is the largest glacial surface in Trentino and has 41 glaciers in the area. From these derive the precious pure waters down to the valley, developing in many streams.
In the park you can go hiking and trekking, but also activities for children and environmental education. Guided tours of the park houses, shelters, and much more are organized, activities for experts and families.
