Malcesine: the beautiful village on Lake Garda

Lake Garda is one of the main natural attractions of northern Italy, with its dreamy landscapes and the mirror of water that reflects the houses and mountains that surround it: here the sky seems to dive for a swim in one of the most famous and beautiful lakes of the entire peninsula.

Things to see in Malcesine

Lake Garda is full of splendid villages, and Malcesine stands out as one of the most beautiful to visit: here is the Scaligero Castle, built in the 6th century when the Lombards decided to make it a lookout point of the eastern Garda, the castle dominates from high all the panorama.

The keep of the castle is the highest part it reaches 30 meters and has walls up to 2 meters thick. A curiosity of the Scaligero Castle is that Goethe was detained here in 1768, surprised while he was drawing a sketch from a nearby street. Mistaken for a German spy, he was briefly detained before the misunderstanding was cleared up.

In Malcesine, you can also visit other places dedicated to Goethe who during his trip to Italy chose it as a destination visit. He passionately described the sensations he felt in these places with the mastery of his pen.

Among the illustrious who visited Malcesine were the painter Klimt and the writer Kafka.

The medieval village of Malcesine is a labyrinth of narrow streets and places to stroll, such as the marina.
