Discovering Narni

Piazza Garibaldi, the main square of the city, is the beating heart of the city, under which there is an ancient Roman cistern, today the site of adventurous climbing routes. Here is the fountain of the same name, rebuilt after the sacking of 1527, with a fourteenth-century bronze basin. Going up the characteristic streets of the city, you will discover the oldest part of the city, the seat of the Cathedral of San Giovenale, dating back to 1100, where you will find Piazza del Priori with the historic building. The origins of Narni date back to 300 B.C., when the Romans settled in the Umbrian town and made it an important fortress on the Via Flaminia. At that time it was known as Narnia.
