What to see in Rovigo

The smallest Venetian province has a lot to offer in terms of beauty, elegance, experiences, gastronomy, and entertainment. Rovigo is a fairly small town that holds mysteries and secrets to be discovered.

Rovigo has always been in the shade due to the most popular cities in the surrounding area, such as Verona, Venice, Ferrara, and Padua. Yet, while the other cities were growing, Rovigo also embarked on its success somewhat quietly, becoming a small treasure to visit absolutely.

Whether it is for a weekend or a trip out of town, Rovigo deserves great attention and here we will reveal why: in fact, we will see the most popular destinations in the city and the activities to do alone or with the family.

A tour of the city of Rovigo

The church of the Beata Vergine del Soccorso in Rovigo is also called La Rotonda and is a church built in the seventeenth century that overlooks the main square of the city. A portico surrounds the entire white building which has a unique octagonal structure and which houses the Madonna much loved by the local people.

The city of Rovigo was born as an episcopal fief and the streets of the city still remind us of this function. In the Middle Ages, Rovigo was full of palaces and monuments, including the Torre Donà, one of the symbols of the city, 51 meters high, which was part of the castle of the Donà family, and the Torre Mozza or Germani, the remains of an ancient medieval fortification. The medieval towers can still be visited and are very suggestive, not to be missed.

Later, however, the Serenissima arrived in Rovigo which today can be found in various buildings in the city center such as Palazzo Roncale and Palazzo Roverella which today houses the Accademia dei Concordi which deals with cultural promotion and art.

If you want to spend an interesting weekend in Rovigo then do not miss the Museum of the Great Rivers, set up in the rooms of the former Olivetani Monastery in Rovigo and which traces 3500 years of the history of the Middle and Upper Polesine area. In this way, it will be possible to leap into the history of the territory innovatively and interestingly.

Another perfect attraction for families is the Valcorba Wildlife Park, a modern zoological garden located in Pozzonovo where you can find unique animals that are not found in other Italian zoos.
