Botanical gardens are the perfect place to walk in nature and discover new species of plants, entering habitats that recall distant worlds. In Italy, we have historical and very ancient botanical gardens, such as the University Botanical Garden of Padua. But if you are in Rovigo, it is possible to visit the Botanical Coastal Garden of Porto Caleri.
This botanical garden is located at the southern end of the Caleri peninsula, separating the sea from the Caleri lagoon. It covers an area of 44 hectares and is characterized by the presence of a remarkable variety of habitats, considering that it extends from the lagoon to the sea. A flora very rich in species and rare specimens, not to underestimate the quantity of birds and amphibians.
The Botanical Coastal Garden of Porto Caleri is the perfect place to visit if you are a lover of nature and its wonders, and if you want to deepen the beauty and richness of the territory and know all its secrets.
The itineraries of the garden can be of different types that you want to walk, for a beautiful and very interesting walk, or take a boat trip, or even if you are passionate about birdwatching. The garden also offers bicycle and horse rides, which are very suggestive experiences.
Walking, certainly the most popular activity, allows you to visit the entire park in 2 hours. It is a very easy itinerary that goes through a ring and returns to the parking lot in Porto Caleri, Rosolina Mare, from where you started. The wood, dominated by the maritime pine, offers a pleasant refreshment, and already from the undergrowth it is possible to admire numerous species.
You go through a raised path that runs along the fountain, where you can admire the amphibians in their habitat. We arrive at the observatory where it is possible to admire some species of birds. Freshwater and brackish water are home to different animals because they are completely different habitats, but the juniper and maritime pine forests are also unique. The raised walkway allows you to admire the area from a privileged point of view.
At the end of the walk, you can choose to taste the typical products of this area, such as honey, Radicchio di Chioggia IGP, and Gin Caleri, a unique product of its kind.
