What to see in Pordenone

Pordenone is one of the most elegant and suggestive cities in Friuli Venezia Giulia. In the historical center of Pordenone, it is possible to take splendid walks under the arcades, among the longest in Europe, which open on buildings with decorated facades, to discover the whole city.

The history of Pordenone, formerly known as Portus Naonis, is anchored to the Noncello, the waterway that was navigable for centuries and which determined the economic development of the city. The river itself acted as a link and exchange between cities and paved the way for innovation and comparison. Pordenone is a dynamic, modern, and creative city, it can be seen by anyone who decides to visit it even just for one day.

The beauty of the city of Pordenone is evident from its historic center, a lively and fascinating place. The center is situated along two main streets, Corso Garibaldi and Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, both of which are elegant and feature famous arcades.

The Duomo or Cathedral of Pordenone is built following a neoclassical facade and a Renaissance portal. The Cathedral is located near the Town Hall, while the bell tower is 72 meters high and is one of the most beautiful in Italy. The Town Hall is the most iconic building in Pordenone, along with the magnificent frescoed facades of the surrounding buildings.

What to do in Pordenone

In Pordenone, there are 3 museums to visit: the Civic Museum of Art of Pordenone in Palazzo Ricchieri houses paintings on wood or canvas, frescoes, wooden sculptures, furniture, drawings, goldsmith and ceramic objects, made from the Middle Ages to the present day.

The Civic Museum of Natural History of Pordenone in Palazzo Amalteo is a very particular and interesting museum where the local habitats and natural environments are reconstructed. Finally, you can visit both the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art and the Archaeological Museum of Western Friuli at the Castello di Torre.

Another activity not to be missed in Pordenone is a visit to the Noncello River Park, which can be reached by crossing the Adam and Eve Bridge, so called because of the presence of two statues representing Jupiter and Juno. The path that crosses the FLU Park probably dates back to the construction of the Amman-Wepfer cotton mill and you can follow the path of the cotton mill workers, while the nature trails offer different species of plants and animals to be discovered.
