A trip to Lake Suviana allows you to enjoy the most authentic nature and landscapes of the Bolognese Apennines, also taking the opportunity to take a tour of Castel di Casio. Lake Suviana is located about an hour from Bologna, a few kilometers from Porretta Terme, it is an artificial lake formed after the construction of the dam in 1932 and is the largest in the province of Bologna as well as one of the largest in Emilia-Romagna.
Lake Suviana is part of the Regional Park of the Lakes of Suviana and Brasimone and, in addition to being a fundamental lake for the production of hydroelectric energy, it is also used for water sports and bathing, especially in the summer, where, in addition to enjoying the lake, you can also enjoy a very flourishing and lively natural landscape. There are several refreshment points for those who decide to spend a day at Lake Suviana, bathing facilities, and other facilities dedicated to sports such as fishing, canoeing, windsurfing, sailing, trekking, and much more.
Lake Suviana is an ideal destination for many local families; here the climate is pleasantly cool in summer and you can find refreshment in nature, arriving with a camper, having a barbecue or a simple picnic in the open air; it is also possible to practice many sports, but bathing is prohibited for safety reasons. Once arrive at Lake Suviana, it is also possible to make a tour of the surroundings to discover very characteristic medieval villages such as Castel di Casio.
Castel di Casio rises in the valley of the Limentra stream, in the stretch between the Suviana basin and the confluence with the Reno river; the ancient tower is visible throughout the valley. In August, Castel di Casio hosts an unmissable medieval re-enactment in costume, in which all the citizens participate and which attracts many tourists who find refreshment from the summer heat in the valleys of the Bolognese Apennines.
