Lake Garda is known as the largest lake in Italy. Its clear and blue waters bathe three different regions, Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige. Along its shores, it is possible to observe various monuments and buildings of incredible historical value, places of attraction that deserve to be visited.
Among the villas built in the style of the 18th and 19th centuries, the belvederes overlooking the lake and the small villages, Garda offers an impressive number of places of interest.
We will discover some of these places together, taking you on a small tour of the lake and the most interesting provinces. You will be able to set off in search of your favorite attraction, perhaps cycling a short distance from the shore and the water.
As the name suggests, Riva del Garda is located just a few steps from the splendid waters of the lake. A charming and colorful village, characterized by the presence of buildings with bright shades.
Riva del Garda is the right place to learn about the history of the place - visit the MAG Museum in the ancient medieval castle - and take part in fun outdoor activities.
From the central square, there are several paths for trekking and mountain biking. Nature lovers will enjoy discovering them one after the other, immersing themselves in the surrounding greenery.
Riva del Garda is also famous for windsurfing, the water sport that many practice directly on the lake. Being a well-ventilated area, windsurfers can find their best practice here.
A short distance from the lake is the suggestive Parco Grotta Cascata del Varona, an intricate path created within a system of natural caves.
The path leads to the Varone Waterfall, a beautiful natural waterfall almost 98 meters high which is located right inside the caves. To reach the waterfall, it is best to wear a raincoat and comfortable hiking shoes. This will protect you from the humidity and you will not risk slipping.
Given the simplicity of the guided tour, the Park is a safe place and also suitable for children. You can take them with you and discover one of the most beautiful examples of the power of nature, the Varone Waterfall.
Valle di Ledro is located between Lake Garda and Val del Chiese and is easily accessible from Riva del Garda.
Tourists know it above all for the Ledro Lake, which in summer becomes a pleasant meeting place for many families. It is possible to swim in its waters and to sunbathe on its shores.
There is no shortage of trekking and biking trails for those who love nature and want to try something different.
In particular, we recommend the route of the "Strada del Ponale", a bicycle route that connects the valley with Riva del Garda.
Along the way you will come across several panoramic points overlooking the lake, beautiful to discover and impossible to forget.
We conclude with two of the most popular villages among those that line Lake Garda.
Peschiera del Garda is often called the "city fortress" because it is surrounded by imposing stone fortifications. UNESCO has included it in the list of the most representative sites of Venetian defensive art of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
The historical center is one of the most attractive points of all, with small stone and brick streets that respect the medieval model.
Lazise, on the other hand, is a small village with an ancient and mysterious appearance. Many people have fought for the control of its territory, leaving obvious signs of their passage.
Several monuments hidden between the borders and the center deserve to be visited, above all because they are still intact and perfectly preserved.
The Scagliero Castle and the Town Hall are among the most interesting buildings, full of history and charm.
