The medieval village of Cingoli

The Marche is a territory rich in history and particularities due to local traditions, local specialties, and the surprising discoveries that are made by traveling in these places. The medieval village of Cingoli is one of the most beautiful treasures that can be seen among these hills. It is a true jewel of the Marche, made up of just over 10 thousand inhabitants and located at 600 meters above sea level: a real Balcony of the Marche.

From the top of these medieval walls, you can enjoy a sensational panorama, a large terrace overlooking the green countryside, the hills that follow one another, and the crops of the farmhouses, giving a fascinating, rich experience from which you can see, the horizon, the Adriatic. The term Cingulum derives from the Latin and means precisely "something that surrounds": in fact, in the first centuries the city appeared as a reality built on a mountain to surround it. Taking a trip to this village means letting yourself be fully overwhelmed by history and tradition, grasping all the facets of an enchanted place.

What to see in Cingoli

Cingoli is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved villages in Italy. For this reason, just moving between the buildings and houses of the village represents a perfect weekend walk. Here you can see the Collegiate Church of Sant'Asuperanzio, an example of Gothic architecture, and the beautiful Cathedral of Cingoli. The churches are different and not to be missed: inside the church of San Domenico you can admire an altarpiece by the artist Lorenzo Lotto, and the church of San Filippo Neri is a riot of baroque decorations.

The Palazzo Comunale di Cingoli, in addition to being an imposing building, is also the seat of the Pinacoteca, which is also a highly evocative room. But the most exciting thing to do in Cingoli is certainly to move through the alleys of the village: take a step back in time, enter the shops, eat local products, and slowly savor every single moment, this is the best gift that Cingoli gives to every visitor.

If you would like to explore the surroundings, it would be possible to leave from here for various excursions, for example to Lake Cingoli, and the Cascatelle di Cingoli. The woods and the life that surrounds this village are surprising and you can get lost among beech and green woods following the course of the Musone river.
