Many places remain silent in their place without ever being protagonists or first in the ranking during the high season, many take their existence for granted without ever having been there, but they hide unique beauties, and landscapes that express an authentic feeling and a strong ability to amaze people. Ancona is the capital of the Marches, a city to be discovered step by step.
The history and the beauty of Ancona are not new. The Greeks fell in love with this city in the 4th century B.C. and set out to explore the Adriatic. They too were amazed by this natural gulf and its extraordinary beauty and decided to found the city of Ankon, from the Greek "elbow", given the particular shape of the coast.
In Ancona, you will find art, culture, architecture, tradition, and innovation mixed in a single place to admire and be overwhelmed. Here you will find a warm welcome, delicious food, large green spaces, and dream views.
Let's start with the Cathedral of San Ciriaco, the beautiful cathedral of Ancona that bears the name of the patron saint of the city. This place was chosen by the Dorians in the 4th century BC to build the temple of Venus Euplea, goddess of navigation. The cathedral replaced the temple in 1300, but the desire to protect those who left by sea was always valid. The church is an extraordinary crossroads of Romanesque and Byzantine art, one of the most beautiful examples in Italy.
Once you have admired the Duomo, it is time to stroll around the city and visit the Mole Vanvitelliana: if you ask a citizen of Ancona, he will tell you that this structure is called Lazzaretto. It is a work by Carlo Vanvitelli, son of Luigi Vanvitelli, architect of the Royal Palace of Caserta. The structure was built to serve as a warehouse and defense for the city, but also as a Lazaretto to quarantine people when they entered the city. The interior of the mole is a sort of miniature city with a temple dedicated to San Rocco in the center of the square. Today various cultural events take place here.
Now that you have taken a tour of the city and admired the many buildings and works of art, you cannot miss a walk to the Passetto, a panoramic green park overlooking the sea. At the center of the district, there is a small temple dedicated to the fallen. An ideal place both in summer to enjoy the beach and in winter to admire the stormy sea.
