Cittadella is the only city in the whole of Europe to have a completely walkable, elliptical-shaped medieval patrol walkway. The walls can be visited by a unique panoramic walkway at a height of 15 metres. Only here, therefore, is it possible to enjoy a true medieval experience such as walking along a patrol walkway and relive the typical experiences of the Middle Ages.
The Citadella walls, however, are not the only reason to visit this small town, although they are certainly what makes it so distinctive. The Malta Tower and the archaeological museum are worth a visit, as is the Cittadella cathedral. Of all the walled cities, Cittadella is the one that will make you feel protected the most. It will be a real journey back in time that is worth taking in order to admire a unique panorama with an ancient atmosphere.
Needless to say, Cittadella's main attraction are the walls which length, surrounding the old town, is 1461 metres, with a thickness of approximately 2.10 metres, of which only 80 centimetres are dedicated to the walkway. The wall is interspersed with four towers, 12 turrets and 16 turrets.
Also of interest are the numerous entrances to the city, such as Porta Padovana, which is just slightly ahead of the Tower of Malta, built at on request of Ezzellino da Romano, which housed a prison. Today, several rooms can be seen in the tower: a conference room on the ground floor, the archaeological museum and siege museum on the upper floors. The tower ends at its highest point with the belvedere, which offers a beautiful view both into and out of the city. A sight that absolutely must not be missed!
But the town doors, such as Porta Bassanese, must be seen more closely and passed through to be even more appreciated. Visitors to Cittadella are many every year and come from all over Italy and Europe.
Through the elevated point offered by the medieval walkway, it is possible to enjoy a privileged view of the old town and the river outside.
Of considerable interestmight be the medieval fair, created specifically to revive a historical period that is perfectly adapted to the urban aspect of the town and that attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world every year.
