The islands of the Venice Lagoon offer a unique setting for a boat trip and can be visited in just one day. By organizing a boat tour it will therefore be possible to admire the three most famous islands of Venice, Murano, Burano, and Torcello.
This tour is perfect for getting into the atmosphere, understanding the history of these settlements, and the way of life of the inhabitants, as well as discovering the origins of the most beautiful city in the world. Just consider that Torcello has always been considered the cradle of Venice, while in Murano it is possible to see the glass that takes unexpected shapes and colors and in Burano, you can stop and see the handmade lace. So let's see together what the treasures these islands hide and how to fully enjoy the visit to the islands of the Lagoon: Murano, Burano, and Torcello.
This is certainly the most famous island in the world, but in reality, Murano is made up of seven small islands characterized by squares and churches. The ancient Amuriana has always lived in the shadow of Venice and its destiny has always been linked to glass processing, precisely because Venice decided to move its glassworks here. Today, it is possible to enter these artisan rooms and admire the manual processing of glass in the still active factories, as well as to visit the Glass Museum in the Gothic palace Giustiniani. In addition, Murano has an evocative cathedral not to be missed, both to be seen from the outside and to be admired inside.
Lace is certainly not underestimated here. Burano is an island full of color, with brightly colored houses that are a beautiful place to take pictures that look like postcards. Burano is full of beauty and you can't help but stop and admire it. The historic center is divided into five medieval districts and houses interesting churches, such as the church of San Martino with the Crucifixion by Giambattista Tiepolo and other sixteenth-century works inside.
Not to be missed is the Lace Museum, which illustrates the evolution of this unique handicraft, whose techniques are still very ancient and have been handed down through the centuries.
This is the least famous island and therefore free from the onslaught of tourists who usually roam the lagoon. Torcello hides a real jewel: the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta which, with its Venetian-Byzantine style, houses mosaics of great beauty. Here there is an important wool processing center even if over time, this rich island of Venice has suffered a slow decline. There are many things to see in Torcello including the Devil's Bridge, so called because it has no parapet, or the throne of Attila, an ancient Byzantine seat.
