What to see in Vicenza

Vicenza is one of the most beautiful cities in Veneto renowned for its elegance. A fascinating historic center that, thanks to the contributions of the architect Andrea Palladio, was included in the Unesco Heritage sites in 1994 for these reasons "Due to its architecture, the city has exerted a strong influence on architecture and 'urbanism in the majority of European countries and the whole world ”.

There are many things to see in Vicenza, and many others to experience - villas, basilicas, museums, gardens, good food, and a welcoming atmosphere. So let's go to the discovery of this beautiful city of exceptional elegance and harmony.

The Olympic Theater

If you are in Vicenza it is impossible to miss the Olympic Theater, the main attraction of the city. This theater is the latest creation by Andrea Palladio, the artist who signed most of the architectural works of the area and is built in wood and stucco, with the shape of the ancient classical theaters, an elliptical staircase, and fixed scenes on the stage, which reproduce a glimpse of the city of Thebes. This is by far the oldest masonry theater in the world.

The Palladian Basilica

An absolute masterpiece of Renaissance architecture, the Palladian Basilica is a marvelous building, to say the least. It is located in Piazza del Signori, and has always been of great impact, even for the German philosopher Wolfgang Goethe who wrote in his Journey to Italy in 1800: «It is not possible to describe the impression that Palladio's Basilica makes ... ".

Majestic, elegant, and breathtaking, the copper roof of the inverted hull is one of the most evocative works to be seen in Italian cities, absolutely not to be missed.

Corso Andrea Palladio

Palladio is present in every corner of Vicenza, from the Villas to the Basilicas to the theater, and the main street of the city is dedicated to him. The ideal place for shopping, walking, drinking a coffee under the arcades, and admiring the succession of architectural works along the road between Piazza Matteotti and Piazza del Castello: Palazzo Thiene Bonin Longare, the unfinished Palazzo Porto Breganze, the Church of San Filippo Neri, Palazzo Trissino - Baston today the seat of the Municipality.

Villa La Rotonda

If you still don't have enough beauty, here is another villa by Andrea Palladio not to be missed. Always Goethe looking at it said: "Perhaps the art of architecture has never reached such a degree of magnificence". It is a villa temple composed of facades all the same, with time, columns, and stairways, and surmounted by a dome that is very reminiscent of the Pantheon in Rome.

The Querini park

Getting out of the city a little can always do well, especially if you enter Querini Park, the green lung of Vicenza. This park is also particularly elegant like the city, with regular hedges, ancient statues, and brecciated avenues, surmounted by a neoclassical temple dating back to 1800.
